The junior kindergarten program is designed for students who will be 5 years old by December 1 and would benefit from a gift of time to grow socially and emotionally in preparation for kindergarten.
Junior kindergarten is an academic program which adheres to the California State Content Standards for kindergarten. The learning environment is very hands on, playful, and active, which promotes a love of learning, while preparing students to be confident leaders in kindergarten. The junior kindergarten classroom studies include: language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, science, and Bible. Students also meet once a week for 30 minutes for enrichment classes in art, music, physical education, computers, and library.
Language Arts: phonics, sight words, reading in a variety of genres, writing, listening, and speaking
Handwriting: letter formation and concepts of print
Mathematics: counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry
Science: life science, earth science, and physical science, hands on experiments, and field trips
Social Studies: respecting God, others, and self, geography, world events, and national holidays
Bible: a study of the Old and New Testaments from creation to resurrection, Bible verse memorization, Christian service, and character traits
Calvary also has an excellent Preschool program available for children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old. Calvary Christian Preschool is licensed by the State of California and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
